Description

Why we like the Arlo Pro 2 Camera Security System

Let’s face it, having to run wires for outdoor (and indoor) security cameras sucks. That’s why we loved the first generation Arlo Pro cameras which finally gave us decent battery life on a fully cordless security camera. This year Netgear released the follow-up to the Arlo Pro in the Arlo Pro 2. This time they upped the resolution on the cameras to full 1080p which brings the cameras to parity with its Nest brethren. Add this to an already formidable outdoor certified camera and you have our attention.

Voice Assistant Compatibility

As with the Arlo Q, the Arlo Pro 2 is not currently compatible with Google Assistant. But it is very well integrated with Amazon Alexa and Amazon’s Fire TV and Echo Show products.

Other Compatibility

The Arlo Pro 2 actually makes a very good device to integrate with IFTTT and other 3rd party automation software. This is because the camera is an excellent motion detector that can trigger other actions from other products. If you’re into Stringify  for setting up more complicated automations, that is also supported here.

Extra features

The thing that distinguishes the Arlo Pro 2 from most other cameras on the market is its fully wireless functionality. You can pop the battery pack into one of these and literally mount it anywhere within your WIFI range and it will just work. The cameras are fully IP-65 outdoor rated so you don’t need to worry about water or snow ruining the electronics.

The whole system requires the use of a base station which will sit with your router (indoors). This is basically the brain of the whole camera system. The interesting thing is that this base station can store local footage (through a connected USB drive) and also act as a very loud security siren.

Just like the Arlo Q, the Arlo Pro 2 cameras come with 7 days of free motion event recording to the cloud. These are short clips of events that the system has seen or heard. If you want full motion cloud storage that can be purchased in a subscription, but honestly we think most folks will be happy with the basic 7 day system.

Conclusion

The upgraded 1080p resolution on these cameras and the continued utility of having fully cordless indoor/outdoor security cameras makes the Arlo Pro 2 security camera system the one to beat in this category. Sure, the video may not be quite as crisp as Nest’s IQ line, but it is damn close and doesn’t require any monthly subscription.

Couldn’t get the cameras to recognize the base control, did a master reset, reset the base control and had same problem, sent them back to manufacture.

Want to feel safe? Get this! My husband and I just bought the Arlo Pro the other day. It is AMAZING! I have never felt so safe inside my home alone; as well as when we are not home. The clearness of display on phone/tablet, accurateness of detecting things, alerts you receive, how crisp the speaker works, easy set-up are all just amazing features you receive with the Arlo Pro.
We both can get notified of anything near our front door (which we don’t use very often). You can also speak to someone at the door through the camera regardless of where you are! How sweet is that?! I am looking forward to purchasing a few more cameras for around the house!

You get what you pay for. Yes, it’s true…you get what you pay for. While this system and its accessories is rather expensive it does give you high quality video and audio with many options for configuring its use. Definitely worth the money and definitely worth getting extra cameras for the system.

Wireless is the way to go 100% ! I like that you can see whats going on at home when you are away from home. And the camera’s are not detectable, They are not big. The picture & video’s are very clear. It picks up the sound very well. And the camera’a are totally wireless. That was the main reason that we got this system. I Love this system.
