Nest Protect Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm
The Nest Protect is a 100% buy in our opinion. It packs in intuitive operation with truly game-changing functionality and will actually make using a smoke detector less of a chore or nuisance.

Great smoke detector. The packaging made me feel like I was opening a very high end product. The voice guided setup was very easy, I was able to get them installed very quickly. The path light feature is a great added bonus. It is great to see that someone had finally addressed the 3am low battery alerts. I also like that I can login to my app at anytime to check the status of my detectors.

Easy to install. We bought 3 protects to replace outdated fire detectors. It took me about a year to finally convince myself to shell out the money and buy them. I researched the heck out of all the different kinds of detectors. There are pros and cons to each kind, but protects were the only one I could find that had both. They were super easy to install. Didn’t even need to completely remove the old screws to get the ring on. Just back them out enough to easily slide the old one out and slice the nest ones in. Worst part of the whole process was finding which breaker was the source since we have a wired system. It took a total of 30ish minutes to install all three. It would be half that if we didn’t have a wired system. All nest products are expensive, but it makes me happy to see the thermostats and now the protects on the ceiling. Never thought I would get joy out of things that use to be hidden. And now I feel SO much better since we replaced detectors that were probably 12 years old.

Fantastic product. The Nest Protect was easy to set up and connect to my smart home. I was pleased to see the extra features such as the night light (3 different light settings!) and the green light as the lights were turned off letting me know my detector was working properly. I have had it for a couple of months now with no functionality issues. Even though it does not apply to my detector placement, I like the feature of the steam setting. As a firefighter with over 15 years on the job, we go to false alarms quite often due to steam and this is a nice feature that is easily controlled by the app. If you have smart lights, this can work with the light incase of an emergency, adjusting them in case of an alarm activation. It will also work with your Nest thermostat to turn off the HVAC for a smoke/CO alarm activation, if you choose that option in the setup. I look forward to purchasing a few more detectors, but they are a little expensive. Don’t let the price tag fool you though, they are worth the investment!!

Game-changing peace of mind now. The biggest changes now with having the Nest smoke/CO detectors throughout our home:
1. I no longer worry if there is an alarm in our basement while we sleep. Our bedroom alarm will notify us and our phones will notify us (and a nearby family member)!!
2. If we are at work, and an alarm goes off, we can initiate help arriving long before our alarm system will, and likely be able to save our pets lives, and intervene before it’s catastrophic. Those 10 minutes will make a huge difference.
3. Recently, a pan was left on the stove. Had we had the Nest, we would have gotten the notification that there was “more smoke” detected than usual, and it would have been caught sooner. It was caught before it was a fire, but the concern that that could happen again is greatly reduced! The smoke/CO detector right in our kitchen will notify us, and it doesn’t go off with normal cooking (trust me, I tried to get a pan smoking to see what it would take). No annoying alarms from normal cooking.

Helped Stop a Fire. Less than a month after installing it throughout my house (I have both hard to wired and battery operated) the Nest system kicked in to save the day. My wife had gone out to pick up our daughter and thought she had turn the stove off. My other daughter was in her room studying upstairs and heard the nest alarm go off outside her room saying smoke in kitchen. She ran downstairs to the kitchen to find the pot on the stove smoking and quickly turned it off. I started to receive messages on my phone at work. I was quickly relieved to know my daughter had taken care of the situation.
I have had Nest for 2 months now and can’t say anything bad about it. Other than being pricey and not being able to be more specific in the location of the Nest (ie you can pick Hallway but not 1st floor Hallway or 2nd floor Hallway or even top floor Hallway).
Set up was simple and the app easy to use. I have it on my phone my wife in hers.
I would highly recommend it!
