The Ring Video Doorbell 2 is one of the world’s hottest smart home products. The original Ring video doorbell sold like crazy and the new version adds even more useful functionality to the doorbell replacement. They have added a higher resolution 1080p sensor to the second generation. Overall, if you are looking for a Ring doorbell, consider the Ring Doorbell 2 or the Ring Pro.
Voice Assistant Compatibility
The Ring video doorbell 2 works natively with all of the big three voice assistants: Google Assistant (via Google Home), Amazon Alexa, and Apple Siri (via Homekit).
Other Compatibility
The Ring 2 is also fully compatible with both IFTTT and Stringify so you can do some more customizable recipes that include your new Ring doorbell. Not surprisingly, since they are a direct competitor, the Ring Video Doorbell 2 is not “Works with Nest” certified. That is not a huge loss however, since it has full IFTTT integration. And if you are already into the smart home hub game with SmartThings or Wink, then you are good to go.
Extra features
The biggest upgrade from the first generation Ring doorbell is the 1080p resolution on the camera. They have also added the ability to snap off the face plate to replace it with a different colored one (all included). This is a welcome addition to a product that is so front and center at your front door. Lastly, they have included a removable battery pack which makes it easier to charge the unit. Having said that, the Ring doorbell 2 also has hardwired functionality if you just want to wire it into your old doorbell wiring.
As far as general features go, the Ring Video Doorbell 2 bring back the original’s excellent motion detection and notifications that let you know when someone is approaching your front door. And the unit also includes two way audio so you can talk to whoever is at the front door (or scare them away if necessary).
Conclusion
This is currently the world’s best smart doorbell brand. And the additions brought by the second generation Ring Video Doorbell 2 are enough to justify upgrading. Until Nest comes out with their doorbell camera, Ring is still king.

Ring doorbell operation lacking. Walmart purchase & Shipping was good & fast , the Ring 2 is good but lacks in programing . It is slow to respond for talk back live & if you have doorbell & motion both set & someone walks up & triggers the motion then rings the doorbell too it won’t hook up with live video . It just stalls until you tuirn it off then they are gone b y that time but you can check the video though .

Great video quality and battery life. I didn’t hard wire my Ring when I installed it, so I was worried I’d have to change the battery often. To my surprise, I’ve been getting several weeks in between charges, even with the highest quality video settings. I still ordered a backup battery from Ring, just in case.
Install was extremely easy, and it paired to my Wi-Fi right away. I added in a Ring Chime, also very simple. Alerts come through on my phone, and the video and audio are crisp and clear. Definitely a great purchase.

Ring is a great buy! Love my, Ring have it hardwired must have good internet. So, I then bought the Chime, love the sound choices. Have now bought the flood light for outside.
