Why we like the Wemo Mini Smart Plug

Belkin’s Wemo brand is one of the more popular smart home brands ranging from plugs to crop pots with smart capabilities. The Wemo Mini Smart Plug combines very good compatibility with a form factor that is very attractive and that doesn’t take up multiple outlets like many of the other smart plugs on the market. In fact, you can stack 2 on the same outlet they are so small!

Voice Assistant Compatibility

This Wemo smart plug has full compatibility with Google Assistant (Google Home) as well as Amazon Alexa. If you are an Apple Homekit fan you can pick up a Wemo Homekit Bridge which will open up Homekit ability to all of their devices. There are also several open source initatives that can theoretically get you Homekit support on the Wemo Mini Smart Plug.

Other Compatibility

This plug will work seemlessly with IFTTT and Stringify if you want to build some more intricate recipes and automations. It will also work with Samsung SmartThings (with a little bit of fiddling) and has the full “Works with Nest” certification so it can tap into the Nest ecosystem’s Home/Away settings for even more automation.

Extra features

The biggest “feature” here is that the Wemo Mini Smart Plug is compact and does its job well. Since we’ve had it installed it has been just about as reliable as our TP-Link plug (which is very). You can set schedules and also put it into “randomized” mode which will simulate someone being home and turning on and off the lights. But our biggest feature is that it doesn’t take up two full outlets. It is small enough to just cover one outlet and can even fit two units on top of one another.

The Belkin Wemo Mini Smart Plug is one of our favorite smart plugs on the market because it is widely supported, works well and is very compact. You won’t do much better than this plug right now.

It’s awesome when it works. A bit buggy though.

It’s magic happening in your home. Easy setup instructions included. Got it running in as little as 5 minutes. The plug is designed to be used in a standard wall outlet with another electrical device. I plugged a bedside lamp to the WeMo.

I paired mine to Alexa but you can just download the app and use it as it is. The app has many functions, set the timer and it will automatically switch off. Great if the house is Nor occupied at times. Or you can set the lamp to come on when you come home.

Any electrical device can be plugged in for usage. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Works great with outdoor lights and fountains. I use a few WeMo mini smart plugs for outdoor accessories. I have two fountains and some outdoor lights. The Wemo mini smarts plugs are perfect for these hard to access outdoor accessories.

East Install. I got this 2 weeks ago. Install was extremely easy and just took a few minutes. It is very unobtrusive compared to your normal bulky mechanical timers. I highly recommend this product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Replacing manual timer was never easier! I have been using a manual (analog) timer to turn on my espresso machine every morning for several years. Whenever we have a power failure, the time gets messed up. When researching replacement options, I was looking for a timer that could easily override the automatic on/off cycle so I can make coffee/espresso during those off periods. The espresso machine is very heavy and is plumbed int making it difficult to pull from wall to reach timer. This device works perfect! There is only one button on the front. Press it and the power cycles on or off. The smartphone app works flawlessly. I program it to come on at 6:30am and go off at noon. It comes back on at 2:30p and off at 4:30p for afternoon coffee.

We have a 2nd Mini Smart Plug with a small lamp connected to it in our Entry Way. It turned on around dusk and stays on until 10:45p. This makes it easier to navigate the house for our dog sitter when we travel. She can quickly come into the home and turn off alarm. It also makes the house look like someone is home.

Very Tempeemental. I bought o two pack of the Wemo Mini Smart Plug at Costco this week (April 2018).
The product has lots of issues and is not ready for “prime time” as other users have written. This product SHOULD be plug and play, and it is not (in theory it is). When Belkin asks you to uninstall the app, reset the unit, etc. – that is not plug and play to me.

I had to spend an inordinate amount of time just to try and get it to connect to wifi. It does not support 802.11 AC, which has been out for years. It only supports 802.11 N, and does not support the 5Ghz frequency. This seems to be very outdated technology and is extremely temperamental to set up, then constantly fails.

Also, the major downside to the Wemo Mini is that it cannot control any device with a “soft switch”, i.e. only product with a hardware driven on/off mechanical swith, such as a basic table lamp.
